At Buchan, we’re all about great design and seamless delivery.
Our vision is to be a leading global design studio, where diversity and integrated ideas thrive.
Built on local roots, we design buildings from the concept stage through to completion across a wide range of sectors. We do this as a global design studio with a team of over 340 experts working across 11 studios in Australia, New Zealand, China, the Middle East and the United Kingdom.
We’re bursting with creative passion and experience. Every person in our studio brings a unique perspective that enriches our culture and our work.
But, it’s our clients who are at the heart of what we do. We aim to deliver quality results that clients can act on to achieve their business goals.

Our experience is a reflection of our understanding of how cities work, but we still view each new project as a privilege to further enrich our knowledge.
We evolve with time, but never lose sight of the principles that shape relevant architecture and experience. Whether it be a city masterplan or a projection artwork in a laneway, we explore the experience of the individual and the community. Interesting outcomes evolve from layers of conversation and drawing, from boardroom to kitchen. We have leaders within our structure with hierarchy removed allowing a freedom of inquiry, questioning and listening. Humour is always present in our process; it grounds us while fostering a sense of freedom for ideas to emerge. This spirit flows through our work.
We look to forge genuine relationships with our clients which play a significant role in shaping the social, economic and architectural future of the project.
The making of a globally recognised leader in design.
Our journey began in the 1890s with the opening of the first practice in Geelong, Australia. The Perth practice has a history dating back to 1896 and the Brisbane practice opened in 1983. Starting in 1990, we operated as The Buchan Group, a combination of our three design practices.
In November 2017, we joined forces and pooled our expertise and complementary talents to create one unified studio. In May 2018 we launched to the market as Buchan and our new brand and visual identity represent the start of a transformation—the start of something new.
“As clients’ needs have changed over our 130-year history, so has Buchan. We have evolved to meet client needs, and we will remain nimble and responsive to whatever the future holds.” Andries Meyer, CEO, Buchan
