The Future of Retail

Castle Towers Sydney, Australia

Castle Towers

Sydney, Australia

Castle Towers Shopping Centre is currently undergoing a major transformation that when complete will see it become Australia’s second largest shopping precinct.

The design character of Castle Hill is about recreation, entertainment, experiential events and dining. It’s also about being an outstanding retail destination. The $900 million upgrade will reconfigure Castle Towers to better utilise the existing site to meet future needs. Car parking will increase the capacity to more than 8,000 vehicles.

The proposed new building respects the heritage aspects of the site. It incorporates stone and textured finishes. Yet, it still provides a contemporary urban aesthetic to humanise the scale of the project through articulation and proportion.

Next to the three-level centre, new public spaces and interfaces with surrounding streetscapes will extend the existing town centre. The new heritage square offers a unique mix of dining and retail spaces. Landscaped areas allow a range of community-focused events.

Buchan is working in collaboration with Dutch firm UNStudio and London based firm Universal Design Studio who have developed the façade and interior design concepts. The project is on target to complete in 2021.
